Mussels in White Wine & Garlic Sauce

Serves 2


  • 900g of mussels

  • 20g of butter

  • ¾ cup white wine

  • 1 chopped shallot

  • chopped garlic cloves (amount to suit taste)

Cooking Method:

  1. Scrub the mussels

  2. Heat butter over medium-high heat in a large pot with a lid

  3. Saute shallot until it is soft but not browned and add garlic cloves

  4. Add white wine and bring it to boil

  5. Add mussels in one layer if possible

  6. Cover pot and let the mussels steam for approx. 3 - 8 minutes

  7. As soon as most of the mussels are open, turn off the heat, and leave to stand for 1 minute

  8. Spoon out mussels and broth, throwing away any mussels that did not open

  9. Serve with crusty bread
